N/GRV School Board Meeting Notes

The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on May 16.

In personnel matters, the board acknowledged the resignation of Deborah Disch, custodian and approved the hires of teachers Nathan Bruce and David Blaylock. The hire of bus driver Erick Campisi was also approved.

In new business, out of area teaching endorsements for several teachers were approved along with supplemental teaching contracts for the Naselle Youth Camp summer program. The board also approved the use of school facilities and transportation for student summer activities and overnight summer travel.

A resolution granting WIAA authority for governing athletics was approved in addition to the donation of baseball/softball equipment from Tim and Amber Haataia.

The board completed a first read on policies 2255 Alternative Learning Experience and 5253 Maintaining Professional Boundaries.

In her report, Superintendent Lisa Nelson shared that state baseball will start on Saturday in Chehalis with a 1 p.m. game, and softball districts will start Wednesday in Covington. Nelson reminded the board that Naselle would once again host the district track meet on Wednesday (after The Eagle had gone to press). Nelson reported that the seventh grade boys were league champs in track and the seventh grade girls were second against 10 area schools.

All the concrete for the multi-purpose building has been poured and finished. The steel for the building is expected to arrive May 25 and the building erection should take about five weeks.

The next board meeting is scheduled for June 20 in the Middle School Commons, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
