Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

May 8--10:17 a.m. An officer stopped a vehicle on SR 4 at Milepost 33 and cited the driver for speeding. 12:57 a.m. A Puget Island resident said neighbors were crossing a fence to take water without permission, which is against Wahkiakum PUD policy, and which was costing the callers money; an officer made contact. 2:17 p.m. An officer stopped a vehicle in Cathlamet near the Puget Island bridge and cited the driver for speeding. 5:06 p.m. A caller reported seeing a seaplane land in the Columbia and that someone threw something from the plane; a boat came and a person appeared to search for what was thrown in the water; all were gone when an officer arrived. 11:50 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to an East Sunny Sands Road residence to aid a man who had fallen.

May 9--9:22 a.m. An officer stopped a vehicle on SR 4 at Milepost 44 and cited the driver for speeding. 11:17 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance and District 4 Fire Department responded to Bradley Mountain where a vehicle had gone off Beaver Creek Road. 11:34 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance and District 4 Fire Department responded to Cape Horn to aid a man who was unwell. 2:58 p.m. A caller reported what appeared to be an oil slick on Welcome Slough; the Coast Guard was notified. 11:29 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported hearing a shot; no one was around when an officer arrived.

May 10--9:38 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Puget Island residence to aid a person with a hip problem. 12:58 p.m. a motorist reported a fallen tree was blocking Covered Bridge Road. 1:36 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a person having an allergic reaction in Cathlamet. 2:49 p.m. A caller reported someone had run into a car at an Una Avenue address. 5:35 p.m. A caller reported suicidal feelings; an officer and a mental health professional responded. 8:30 p.m. An officer arrested a person on Puget Island on a Department of Corrections arrest warrant. 9:44 p.m. Officers were notified of a possibly drunken driver; an officer made contact.

May 11--6:47 a.m. A caller reported an overturned boat drifting down the Columbia near County Line Park; the Coast Guard, and a NOAA crew were notified; the sheriff's office responded and was out with the vessel at Cape Horn. 8:53 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Little Island residence to aid a man who was unwell. 12:56 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Rosedale residence to aid a woman who had fallen. 6:20 p.m. A caller reported people were cutting firewood without permission at Skamokawa Vista Park; an officer made contact; the people were prohibited from entering the park for one year. 9:13 p.m. A caller reported a power outage, adding they had heard a noise like a transformer explosion. 9:20 p.m. A caller reported a fallen tree was blocking SR 4 at Milepost 14. 9:28 p.m. A one car traffic accident was reported at Milepost 14. 9:31 p.m. A caller reported a fallen tree was blocking SR 4 at Milepost 17. 9:36 p.m. A caller reported a burglary had occurred at a Grays River address. 9:56 p.m. District 4 and Cathlamet firemen responded to a brush fire in the Abe Creek area.

May 14--10:55 p.m. A caller reported someone had run into a vehicle in the Cape Horn area. 9:51 p.m. A Westend woman reported feeling threatened; officers and a mental health professional responded; five firearms were taken for safekeeping.

May 15--12:04 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to an East Birnie Slough Road residence to aid a person who had fallen. 12:10 a.m. A caller reported a person was threatening another person with a gun; an officer responded and made an arrest. 7:59 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Rosedale resident who was very ill.

Officers issued 12 warnings during the week to drivers for issues such as speed and dysfunctional lights.
