Clarification

In an article in the June 22 edition of the Wahkiakum County Eagle, Diana Zimmerman reported that the number of mental health calls to the Wahkiakum County Sheriff’s Office had tripled between 2007 and 2013. The office had 15 calls in 2007 and 47 in 2013.

While this was not incorrect, Sheriff Mark Howie would like readers to know that the number of calls to the office quadrupled in 2015. They had 56 calls that year.

Also, Howie stated in the interview that the mental health department only gave assessments to inmates. He would like to amend that, adding that they also provide counseling.
