The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on August 15.

During the regular board meeting, two personnel matters were approved. The board hired David Blaylock as middle school football coach and accepted the resignation of Haleigh See as middle school volleyball coach.

Out of area teaching endorsements were also approved for the following teachers: Bruce, Hoagland, Hickman, Dalton, Macy, Smith, Shuang and Yu.

The board and superintendent’s goals for the 2017-18 school year were approved, along with supplemental contracts for staff. Supplemental contracts cover positions such as coaches, class advisors, night shift for Youth Camp teachers and extra duties like technology director and vocational director.

As a final order of business, the board approved a contract with DBC for seal coating of the parking lot and repairs to the bus loop, not to exceed $15,500.

Superintendent Nelson provided an overview of potential board policies up for adoption: 1410 Executive Sessions, 3115 Homeless students, 3116 Students in foster care, 3122 Student absences, 3416 Medications at school, 3432 Emergencies, 4040 Public records, 5005 Employment and verification, 6220 Bid requirements, and 6580 Continuity of Operations.

The superintendent reported that the Naselle Youth Camp recently had two students graduate. Principal Donlon and four staff recently attended a PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) training to implement for the upcoming school year. There will be a Mandarin teacher meet and greet in Lions’ Park in Naselle on August 24 at 5:30 p.m., along with back to school/open house on August 30 beginning at 5 p.m. Because school starts on September 5, Nelson pointed out that the first home football game is on September 1.

The next regularly scheduled board meeting is September 19 at 6:30 p.m. in the middle school commons.
