The Wahkiakum Mules volleyball team traveled to Longview on Tuesday night to face R.A. Long, a 2A school, in their season opening volleyball match. They came from behind to beat the Lumberjills in five sets, 12-25, 13-25, 25-23, 25-23, and 15-3.

"We came out with lots of jitters and played to not lose instead of playing to win," Coach Kayli Hurley said. "This is a really fun group of girls, so we switched our focus to the fun of the game, which was just the turnaround we needed. I'm very proud of the fire and perseverance my girls showed tonight."

According to Hurley, it was a true team effort. She named Macie Elliott, Ellie Leitz and MJ Neves as standouts. Elliott had six kills and "strong serve receive'" Leitz had nine kills and three blocks, and Neves scored five aces under pressure.

The Mules host Napavine this evening (Thursday).
