Sports calendar for the coming week: Thursday, high school volleyball at South Bend, JV starts at 5:45 p.m. varsity to follow; Friday, high school football in Naselle with Wishkah at 7 p.m .; Saturday, high school volleyball at Adna Tournament at 9 a.m .; Monday, middle school volleyball in Naselle with Ocosta at 5:45 p.m .; Tuesday, cross country at Toledo at 4 p.m., high school volleyball at Wahkiakum at 5:45 p.m .; Wednesday, middle school volleyball at Raymond at 5:45 p.m. Go Comets!

The Naselle-Grays River Valley school board will meet on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. These meetings are public and the community is encouraged to attend.

Westend news:

The annual Valley Bible Church pie social will be held on Sunday following the church service. Proceeds from this event will go to the Valley Bible Church Preschool.

Tickets are still available for the West End Food Pantry’s annual Lasagna Dinner. The event will be held in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park on Sept. 23 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tickets are priced at $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. There will also be a drawing for a door prize.

The menu sounds delicious, and having attended these dinners in the past, I know it will not disappoint the diners. On the menu: lasagna (gluten free eggplant variety available), salad, garlic bread, and dessert.

This year’s dinner will be dedicated to the memory of Pat Potter and the proceeds will be donated to her son, Randy. Henceforth, these annual dinners will benefit a needy family in our community.

Tickets can be purchased from the Food Pantry board members or you can pick them up on Thursdays 1-5 p.m. Unsold tickets will be available at the door. For more information please call Shonda Ware at 465-2722. Donations of non-perishable food is also appreciated.

Many of us miss our former neighbor, Marie Fauver, since she moved to Naselle with her daughter. She sold her lifelong home prior to moving and I have recently had the pleasure of meeting the buyer and some of his family. His name is Brian Livingston and he now lives in Beaverton, but intends to make Grays River his permanent home with his family in the late spring.

They intend to keep the house in basically the same character as it has always been. Just a few minor upgrades. They love the fact that it has been kept in good condition for all these years. Stop in and say hello to our new neighbor, if you’re in the area.

He tells me that where they live now, he is stressed when he gets up, stressed when he is at work, stressed when he comes home and stressed when he goes to sleep. When he comes here, it’s heaven. All that stress is gone. That’s exactly how I feel here. Welcome to Grays River, Brian and family.

I will be spending a couple of days in Oregon visiting some of my kids, grandkids and great grandsons when the paper comes out today (Thursday). Family is the best thing in the world.

It looks like we might get a nice soaking this coming weekend, at least that’s the prediction. Fall is coming, and I love the rain!
