Grayci Thomas and Ellie Leitz block a Kalama hitter, and the Mules get a point in their three set loss to the Chinooks last Thursday.

This week, the Wahkiakum Mules volleyball team split games with Kalama and Pe Ell. They played one more match on Wednesday after The Eagle went to press and begin district play on Saturday.

Last Thursday, the Mules steadily improved their scores in each set of their loss to Kalama 8-25, 20-25, and 25-27. In the third set, the Mules proved they could keep up and pushed the game into extra points.

"We really struggled again to find our rhythm," Coach Kayli Hurley said. "Kalama serves tough, and we were having a difficult time getting in system. By the third set, my girls were fired up and ready to play, but unfortunately tonight, it was just a bit too little a bit too late."

Hurley praised Grayci Thomas, Nai'a Freeman, and Jansi Merz for good work at the net.

Thomas, and Kayla Bowcutt, the team manager, were honored for Senior Night.

On Monday, the team traveled to Pe Ell and won easily in three sets, 25-16, 25-12, and 25-18.

Macie Elliott had seven kills and Ellie Leitz had six.

"Charlie Ashe had a great night with strong serve receive and serving," Hurley said. "Mckensi Fluckiger and Merz were also strong from the service line."

District games begin on Saturday. The Mules will play their first two games at Mossyrock, with the first match at 11:30 a.m. If they lose both games that day, their season is over. If they don't, they will either play in Raymond or Willapa Valley on November 1. Finals are played on the 4th in Raymond.

Details will be posted on The Eagle website and The Wahkiakum Eagle Sports Report page on Facebook when they become available.
