State Football Playoffs -- A-C-H cools Comets in quarters

They came; they played; they conquered.

Eastern Washington's Almira-Coulee-Hartline Warriors came to Montesano last Saturday and overwhelmed the Naselle Comets 60-32 in a state Class 1B football quarterfinals playoff game.

The Warriors took a 40-6 first quarter lead and built that to 60-18 at halftime. The Comets added six points in the third quarter and eight in the fourth for the final 60-32 score.

The Comets finished their season with an 8-3 record; they were 5-0 champions in Coastal 1B League play.

Senior players include Donny Edwards, Erik Lund, Carson Bergeson, Zach Thorsen, and Nick Gaines.

In other state 1B football quarterfinals, Lummi beat Tacoma Baptist 62-42; Sunnyside Christian defeated Cusick 62-20, and Odessa downed Garfield-Palouse 60-14.

In the semifinals this Saturday, Odessa faces Sunnyside Christian, and Lummi takes on A-C-H.

In the state 2B quarterfinals, Kalama dumped Pe Ell/Willapa Valley 50-15; Napavine beat Toledo 35-7, Asotin defeated Davenport 27-12 and Liberty overwhelmed DeSales 51-7.

In the Saturday semifinals, Central League powers Kalama and Napavine face off, and Asotin takes on Liberty.
