Pioneer Lutheran Church hosts Finnish flavored Christmas Concert

Vocalist Richard Ellis sang a capella the songs "What Child is This" and "The Wonder of Wonders."

Deep River Church sponsored their annual Christmas hosted by Michael Swanson, chairman of the Finnish Festival. About 100 people were in attendance to hear Naselle Children's Choir directed by Becky Underhill; Deep River history by Sue Holway; vocalist Richard Ellis; Finnish adult choir directed by Cliff Weimer, and the bell choir directed by Jan Wolfe. The highlight of the afternoon was master kantele player Wilho Saari.

Master of the 36 string Finnish National instrument, the kantele, 85-year-old internationally known Wilho Saari is one of six generations to play this zither type instrument.
