Community members urged to participate

December 28, 2017

To The Eagle:

I would like to take this opportunity to address a couple of issues: The first is on a personal level. I imagine that many of you have heard that I will be retiring June 30, 2018. It will mark the end of my 24th year as the superintendent of Wahkiakum School District, and I just want to let everyone know what a rewarding and enjoyable tenure it has been for me. My “hat is off” to the board of directors, staff members, students and community members of this fine school district. You all make this such an awesome place to live and work, and I just want to say “Thank you” to all!

My second item is more work related. The school board has a very important task ahead of it – and that is the hiring of our next superintendent. The board has scheduled three special meetings/workshops to discuss this process and the community is encouraged to attend any or all of these upcoming meetings. All three of the meetings will be held in the high school library and each will begin at 4:15 p.m. The dates of the meetings will be January 2, January 5 and January 9.

The only other item on the agendas of those three meetings will be to answer questions regarding our upcoming special levy. The date of the election is February 13 and this levy will be a replacement levy, replacing our previous 4-year levy that was passed in 2014. In mid-January the district will also mail out a flyer to all box holders with additional information about this levy.

The upcoming couple of months will allow great opportunity for community members to engage in the operations of our school district. We encourage you to participate in this most important process. Again, thanks for being you and for all of the support that you contribute to the youth of our communities!

Sincerely,

Bob Garrett

Superintendent

Wahkiakum School District
