The Wahkiakum Mule track and field team traveled to Mossyrock last Thursday for a Central 2B meet. They competed against teams from Pe Ell, Morton/White Pass, and Mossyrock.

The Mules dominated the 800 meters with freshman Braxton Johns taking first for the boys, and Ellie Leitz winning the event for the girls. Johns finished with a time of 2:31.77, and Leitz had a winning time of 2:42.14.

The Mules scored 15 points and took fourth place in boys competition. The Lady Mules scored 52 points and took second place.

For the boys:

Senior Simon Stepanek took second place in the 400 meters with a time of 1:05.00.

Junior Quentin Nelson threw 136-05 and placed third in the javelin.

Freshman Eli Moon improved in the discus with a personal record of 85-01 and a sixth place finish.

Freshman Tucker Thomas placed sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 28-04.


The 4x100 relay team of Daniel Dennison, Stepanek, Johns, and Nelson took third place with a time of 52.46.

For the girls:

Junior Mckensi Fluckiger placed first in the long jump, where she cleared 14-08. She took second place in the triple jump with a distance of 29-11.

Along with her win in the 800 meters, Leitz placed third in the triple jump with a 29-09.

Freshman Laila Abdul-Kariem placed second in the 100 meters with a time of 14.39. She also took second in the long jump with a leap of 12-10.

Junior Trinity Klecker took second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 19.31 and third in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 58.26.

Freshman Teylor Sauer placed third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 19.50 and sixth in the long jump with a distance of 11-11.


Freshman Jansi Merz took second in the discus with a new personal record of 91-09.

Junior Macie Elliott placed fifth in the shot put with a distance of 25-09 and sixth in the discus with a distance of 78-07.

Junior Charlie Ashe cleared 4-06 in the high jump for second place.

The team will next compete at Ilwaco on April 26.
