Sheriff's Report, April 26, 2018

 

April 26, 2018



Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

April 16 — 8:31 a.m. An agency in Utah asked the sheriff’s office to notify a Wahkiakum resident of the death of a family member. 10:11 a.m. A Rosburg resident reported that a protection order had been violated. 10:42 a.m. A caller reported that trespassers were trying to cart off equipment that was on his property in Cathlamet. It turned out to be civil matter between a tenant and a landlord. 11:57 a.m. A deputy was requested for a civil standby at a Rosburg home. 1:44 p.m. A driver was taken into custody during a vehicle stop in Cathlamet.

April 17 — 5:42 p.m. The pharmacy in Cathlamet reported that there was a suspicious substance in a bottle of medications that had been dropped off. A deputy investigated and determined that it was lint.


April 18 — 5:12 p.m. The lights on a new piece of equipment at Hancock sorting yard were stolen. The caller found boot prints and a tool that had been left behind. 7 p.m. A welfare check was requested for a Rosedale resident. 7:39 p.m. The sheriff’s office investigated a dropped 911 call from a Puget Island home. After discovering that there was no emergency and that a child had made the call, a deputy stopped by the home for an educational visit. 11:51 p.m. A deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle parked near the water treatment plant in Cathlamet. Back up was requested after the registered owner was determined. Another deputy and a state trooper responded and began a search for the subject. He ran when spotted and was taken into custody after a pursuit on foot.


April 19 — 1:26 p.m. Deputies, state patrol, ambulances, and fire departments responded to a five vehicle accident on SR 4 about two miles west of County Line Park. 4:16 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported that a juvenile had not come home after school but had gone to another residence despite instructions not to do so. A deputy spoke with the youth, who was okay.

April 20 — 1:05 a.m. A caller reported that she had struck a dog on SR 4 in the Rosedale area. 12:13 p.m. A Rosburg resident reported that someone was taking down his “No Trespassing” signs and stealing wood. 2:19 p.m. State patrol responded when a caller reported that a truck pulling an RV had broken down on SR 4 and was blocking traffic just west of County Line Park. 5:28 p.m. A caller reported a driver that did not stop after a local school bus engaged its stop paddle. 7:57 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that two dogs were chasing elk in the area. He was afraid that the dogs were going to get shot. The caller was advised to call the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. 8:21 p.m. An outside agency requested assistance from deputies while conducting field sobriety tests in the Cathlamet area. He called them off a few minutes later. 8:40 p.m. A caller reported that a driver was all over the road in the Rosedale area. It turned out to be a youth with a learner’s permit.


April 21 — 11:22 a.m. An erratic driver was reported on SR 4 heading west in the Cathlamet area. 11:25 a.m. A caller reported that approximately 30 cows were loose in the Grays River area. A message was left with the owner. 9:21 p.m. A caller reported a trespasser on a property in Skamokawa. 2:24 p.m. A Rosedale resident said a dog had sat on the phone when dispatch made contact with her to determine why a 911 was hung up. 3:00 p.m. A caller reported that people were trespassing at her Rosedale home while she was incarcerated. 7:29 p.m. A Deep River resident reported hearing automatic and semi-automatic gunfire nearby. 8:09 p.m. A Deep River resident reported that someone had just set off a bomb. It was determined that it was likely happening in Pacific County, and authorities there were notified. 10:45 p.m. The Skamokawa Fire Department responded to a chimney fire in Skamokawa.

April 22 — 9:35 a.m. A deputy was asked to accompany a caller to a home at Brookfield. 9:54 a.m. A caller reported that a woman had almost been struck by vehicles while walking on SR 4 in the Rosedale area. The person was detained and a representative from the mental health department was en route. The deputy requested assistance after the woman became combative. 11:38 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a Puget Island resident. 5:27 p.m. A caller reported that traffic was backed up from the temporary light at Stella all the way into Wahkiakum County, almost to Cape Horn. State patrol and the Washington State Department of Transportation were notified.

April 23 — 5:55 a.m. A caller reported a large rock in the middle of a lane on SR 4 just west of County Line Park. 10:46 a.m. A caller said that money had been stolen from an online fundraising account. 1:27 p.m. A driver was cited for speed on SR 4 in Skamokawa.
