Community invited to annual pig roast

Down River Dispatches

August 2, 2018

I’m not sure how everyone else is dealing with all the heat and dry weather for the past few weeks, but I’m ready for rain, lots of rain. My well is about dry and it’s quite nerve wracking. I don’t even dare to mow, as I am afraid hitting a rock will spark the dry grass and cause a huge fire. Be safe everyone.

News from Naselle:

FinnFest 2018 is now a part of history and what a great event for all to enjoy. With the food, flowers, music, dancing, all the displays and lectures, how could anyone find anything to criticize? It was amazing, especially for a first timer.

The folks who coordinated the event, who set everything up and who followed up with the aftermath of deconstruction are to be commended to the fullest. What a job! Thank you to everyone involved and to all who attended. See you in two years.

This is the last weekend to purchase tickets and see the show Beauty and The Beast presented by PAPA-Peninsula Association of Performing Artists (7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday) in the Fort Columbia theater in Chinook. It is a delightful play for the whole family to enjoy.

The Tuesday Farmer’s Market in the Grays River #124 Grange Hall located on SR 4 is my go to place for fresh produce and baked goods. They are open from 2-6 p.m. each week. This week I am enjoying purple potatoes, swiss chard, fresh picked peas and delicious zucchini, walnut, raisin muffins. Also in their offering are broccoli, cauliflower, rhubarb, leeks, strawberries, and much more. Great prices too.

This weekend is the annualPig Roast/Potluck and Campout, located at 4491 SR 4 West.Bring your camping gear and stay the entireweekend or just come on Saturday for the pig roast and pot luck. Poul and Zenaida Toftemark have opened their property to this event many times in the years past, and I for one really appreciate their generosity. The roasted pig is provided for all to enjoy, but you can bring a dish or two to share.

Bring the whole family as there are games to play, music to listen to, a water slide, delicious food and fellowship. Please bring your own chairs to sit in, your own beverages of choice, a life jacket for your kids if they will be swimming and come enjoy some fun with wonderful friends and neighbors. Please leave your pets at home as no accommodations are available for them.
