There were no changes in results as Wahkiakum County election officers tallied late election day votes on Thursday.

In the race for county assessor, Brian McClain leads incumbent Bill Coons 1,019-810. Both ran as Independents.

In the race for US Congress, District 3, incumbent Republican Jaime Herrera Beutler tallied 946 votes. Her nearest challenger is Democrat Carolyn Long with 530 votes. Others seeking the position were Democrat David McDevitt 132, Republican Michael Cortney 87, Republican Earl Bowerman 75, Democrat Dorothy Gasqué 45, and Democrat Martin Hash 14.

District wide, Herrera Beutler had 42.13 percent of the vote, Long 35.33 percent, McDevitt 7.95 percent, Bowerman 5.52 percent, Gasqué 4.79 percent, Cortney 3.35 percent, and Hash 0.92 percent.

In Washington’s top two primary election system, the two candidates with the highest vote totals advance to the general election.

Legislative District 19, Position 1—Democrat Erin Frasier 776, incumbent Republican Jim Walsh 1,030; Walsh leads district wide 50.3 percent to 49.7 percent for Frasier. Frasier had a narrow lead in the first count on August 7.

Leg. Dist. 19, Position 2—incumbent Democrat Brian Blake 972, Cathlamet Republican Joel McEntire 565, and Republican David Parsons 260. District wide, Blake tallied 58 percent of the vote, McEntire 22 percent and Parsons 20 percent.

County auditor—Incumbent Independent Nicci Bergseng 1,124 votes, Independent Matt Kuhl 682.

County clerk—Democrat incumbent Kay Holland 1,480 votes.

County commissioner, District 3 votes only—incumbent Democrat Blair Brady 309 Former county sheriff Gene Strong is mounting a write-in campaign and drew 60 votes.

Prosecuting attorney—incumbent Democrat Dan Bigelow 1,175, independent Stewart Feil 684.

County sheriff—incumbent Independent Mark Howie 1,215, Republican Graham Phalen 676.

County treasurer—incumbent Democrat Tammy Peterson 1,459.

US Senate—incumbent Democrat Maria Cantwell 634, Republican Susan Hutchinson, her only challenger in triple digits in the county, 421. Statewide, Cantwell tallied 55 percent of the vote, Hutchinson 24.38 percent, the only other double-digit percentage.

Voter turnout was 63.05 percent; the next count will be 12 noon on August 21.
