News from Naselle:

The Naselle-Grays River Valley School Board meeting will take place next Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

Football and volleyball practices both begin this week in preparation for their first games.

It won’t be long before the kids will be back in school, and the big rush to purchase school supplies and clothing has already begun. Most stores have programs where you can purchase and donate items for kids who can’t afford to buy their own supplies. A great way to give, and help out kids.

Westend news:

More great veggies, fruits and baked goods were to be had at the Grays River Grange #124 this past Tuesday. I came home with blueberries, chard and delicious plums. Also available were broccoli, rhubarb, potatoes, cabbage, cupcakes and other baked goodies, etc., and at really reasonable prices.

They are open every Tuesday 2-6 p.m. Get there early for best selection.

The Wahkiakum County Fair starts today (Thursday), and I love our little hometown fair. Come check out all the displays of canned goods, art projects, sewing projects, photos, see all the work the 4-H kids have put in to show their animals, the other animal displays, spelling bee, good food and just plain old fashioned family fun for three days. Hope to see everyone there.

The West End Food Pantry is open on Thursday from noon to 5 p.m., and even in the summertime, there are lots of families who utilize the pantry to make ends meet. This is the time of year when kids are home and easy to prep foods are especially welcome. Some items that are needed and can be donated are: peanut butter and jelly, fresh produce, boxed cereals, canned meats, raviolis, spaghetti-os, juices, macaroni and cheese, hamburger helper, etc.

Cash donations are also welcome, and are tax deductible.

Happy Birthday to the following celebrants this week: Bob Eaton, Alina Ashe, J.J. McCullough, Ruby Mughal, Rhiana Jacot, Christa Ding and Randy Tienhaara.

Happy Anniversary to Travis and Jen Boggs, Glen and Shirley Miller, Todd and Jen Blanchard, Eric and Ashley Hendrickson, Regan and Sara Wirrkkala, Bill and Krista Rocker, Randy and Barbara Tienhaara and Dave and Kristi Leeland.

A celebration of life pot luck will be held for Ann Bulick on August 25 at 3 p.m., in the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park. More information in next week’s column.
