Irish song and dance come to Skamokawa

A group promoting Irish culture brought traditional dance and music to the Skamokawa Grange last weekend.

It was the luck of the Irish if you made it to the Skamokawa Grange last Saturday night.

The Mícheál Ó Domhnaill Oregon Branch of Comhaltas was there, and they held a céilí, a traditional Irish social gathering filled with music, dancing, and a potluck dinner. They opened their doors to all, and a few Wahkiakum County residents found their way there.

The Portland group, which celebrates Irish culture, was in town to do a little camping at Vista Park.

According to one member, most of the people in attendance were musicians. Earlier in the day, an organizer used a deck of cards to determine who would play together later that night. For instance, the four that drew a king played together, the four that drew a ten would play together, and so on.

They were all so good that they didn't need the extra time to prepare.
