Berry address correction
The Lions Club flyers for requests for frozen berries incorrectly stated the address for mailing the order form.
The correct address is Skamokawa, WA, 98647. The address in last week's edition of The Eagle was correct.
Free gospel concert offered
A gospel concert featuring Edward Downs and Steve Peterson will be held at Valley Bible Church at 7 p.m. on August 30.
Peterson is from Sonora, Calif. and plays alto and soprano saxophone. Downs lives in Grays River and has restored the old Valley Bible Church, built in 1908, into a lovely home for himself and his wife Claudia. Downs recently opened the Finn Fest with his five part vocal harmony rendition of the Star Spangled Banner a capella.
Guest vocalist Miguel Verazas from Southern California recently performed in India and ministered to a Youth Group of over 1700. He is attending college to become a youth pastor.
The concert is free.
Preschool sponsorships needed
St. James Family Center will begin preschool classes for three and four year old children on September 5 and 9.
The Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program is full at this time, but the center is in need of sponsorships for additional families. It is the policy of the Family Center to accept all children wishing to participate in early childhood education classes if possible. This year has yielded more requests for sponsorships than usual.
Those interested in donating to the Family Center for preschool sponsorships, call Beth Hansen at 795-8612.
Chili Cook-off this weekend
The 5th Annual Labor Day Buzzard's Breath Chili Cook-off will be held this Saturday from 10-4 p.m. at the Elochoman Marina in Cathlamet.
Tasting will begin at 1 p.m. for the chili cook-off, and there will be live music from the Naselle Marimba Band, a tortilla throwing contest, a cow plop raffle and a beer garden. Ray Badger will be running kiddie train rides from 1-3 p.m. Tickets for the raffle can be purchased at the Lower Columbia EDC office in the Scarborough Building in Cathlamet or at the cook off.

Tribal council to meet
The Chinook Tribal Council will be meeting on September 13 at 11 a.m. at the fire hall in Bay Center. A potluck luncheon will be held. Tribal members are encouraged to attend. For more information, call 360-777-8303.

Board of Equalization
to begin appeal hearings
Wahkiakum Board of Equalization will be starting their appeal hearings in September.
The days scheduled per date are September 6, 13, and 27 and October 4. Hearings will be held in the Third Floor Meeting Room of the Wahkiakum County Courthouse in Cathlamet.
Appellants should be receiving letters informing them of their hearing date and time in the next couple of weeks.
Hunter's Education course makes registration changes
Those wishing to take the Hunter Education course should register and pick up course materials on August 30 between 8-10 a.m. at the Fire Hall Meeting Room in Cathlamet.
The actual Hunter's Education course and test will take place on September 20 beginning at 8 a.m..
The course is required for all first time hunters born after January 1, 1972, and for those wishing to join the Trap Shooting club through FFA or to buy a hunting license. There is no age limit.

Chili cook off fires up
The Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce is preparing for the 5th Annual Labor Day “Buzzards Breath” Chili Cook-off to be held on August 30.
Chili cooks are invited to make their special recipes at the Elochoman Slough Marina in Cathlamet from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a "unique" trophy for the team with the best chili. Public tasting begins at 1 p.m.
There will also be a Tortilla Throwing Contest with prizes, live music by the Naselle Marimba Band, a Cow Plop Raffle and a beer garden.

Phyllis Likness, coordinator of the FFA/Woman's Club Gleaning Project is looking for produce to pick.
Students of Mr. Hurley will pick the produce with a third going to the owner, a third to the food bank and a third to the FFA.

Youth football season coming
Wahkiakum Youth Football's season is approaching and any interested 4th, 5th and 6th graders need to sign up to play.
Participants will need a registration form and a physical before they can play.
