Sheriff's Report

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:
August 18—5:07 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported someone was burning debris outdoors, which is prohibited. 7:43 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to Foster Road where a man had been injured in a bike accident; the patient was transported to a hospital. 8:25 p.m. A caller said trespassers were camping on a Pleasant Point property; an officer made contact.

August 19—9:49 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Rosedale residence to aid a man who possibly had a stroke; the patient was transported to a hospital. 7:50 a.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to an Oneida Road residence to aid a person with an unknown problem; the patient was transported to a hospital. 3:32, 4:33 p.m. Callers said a woman in red clothing was standing quite close to the edge of SR 409 in Cathlamet and later on Puget Island; an officer was unable to find the woman.

August 20—1:59 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to Salmon Creek to back up a Naselle crew at a call there. 4:34 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to an Altoona/Pillar Rock Road residence to aid a woman with chest pain; the patient was transported to a hospital. 5:21 p.m. A motorist reported grapefruit size rocks on SR 4 east of the Wahkiakum/Cowlitz county line and that the rocks were puncturing tires; the state patrol was notified. 6:30 p.m. A caller reported a fight in progress at a Rosedale business; an officer investigated. 7:06 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to the Cathlamet jail to aid a man who had sustained a head injury; the patient was transported to a hospital.

August 21—6:15 a.m. A motorist reported a vehicle had rolled over along SR 4 three miles from the Cowlitz County line; no one was injured. 7:39 a.m. A caller said three men were fighting along SR 4 near Nassa Point; an officer was advised. 9:37 a.m. A child sexual assault was reported; an officer investigated. 11:50 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Skamokawa residence to aid a woman with blood pressure trouble; the patient was transported to a hospital. 8:28 p.m. A caller said a vehicle was getting ready to camp on a closed, private logging road on KM Mountain; an officer was advised. 8:41 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Main Street residence to aid a woman injured in a fall; the patient was transported to a hospital.

August 22—8:16 a.m. Wahkiakum PUD reported that 1200' of copper wire were stolen from a line along SR 4 between Cathlamet and Skamokawa; an officer investigated. 9:44 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported a possible case of domestic violence against a child; an officer investigated. 12:01 a.m. Motorists reported a woman in red clothes was standing close to traffic on SR 4 near Cathlamet and was almost hit by a vehicle; an officer and mental health personnel made contact with the woman. 2:51 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported being threatened by a pit bull; an officer was advised. 11:50 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to a Grays River residence to aid a man who had taken an overdose of drugs; the patient was transported to a hospital.

August 23—2:54 a.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to a Grays River residence to aid a woman with chest pain; the patient was transported to a hospital. 12:13 a.m. Officers and mental health personnel responded to a possible suicide attempt at a Cathlamet address. 5:17 a.m. An officer and the Cathlamet ambulance responded to Skamokawa Vista Park where people attending a class reunion campout had gotten into a fight, and one man punched another to the ground and continued punching till the victim was unconscious; the victim was taken to a hospital for treatment, and the other man was arrested on a charge of fourth degree assault. 7:32 a.m. A Rosedale business reported the theft of a 12-foot high statue; an officer was advised. 8:34 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Little Island residence to aid a man with severe abdominal pain; the patient was transported to a hospital. 9:51 a.m. Puget Island residents reported a black dog from a North Welcome Slough Road residence had attacked a woman and her children; one caller said he would shoot the dog if it came on his property; the dog’s owner was notified that the dog would be formally classified as a potentially dangerous dog and must be controlled. 4:29 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to the nursing home to aid a woman having a seizure; the patient was transported to a hospital. 7:12 p.m. A caller said a Puget Island woman wasn’t watching her children and a 7-year-old was wandering without supervision; an officer investigated. 10:44 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Hillcrest Drive residence to aid a woman who was very disoriented; the patient was transported to a hospital.

August 24—12:27 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to the jail to aid an inmate who was assaulted by another inmate. 10:34 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported a loose pit bull wandering the neighborhood; a Cathlamet town ordinance prohibits pit bulls inside the city limits, but they are allowed outside the city limits. 9:34 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department and ambulance responded to a South Second Street residence where a stove fire occurred and caused a person to have smoke inhalation trouble.

State versus Kenneth Milan Julya, 61. Found guilty on three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm in the second degree. Ordered to serve 45 days in jail with 30 suspended on conditions. He was ordered to pay $500 crime victim assessment, $200 court costs, $100 DNA collection fee, and attorney fees to be determined.
State versus Jason Alan Montgomery, 31. Found guilty on one count of theft in the second degree, criminal trespass in the second degree, and use of drug paraphernalia. He was ordered to spend one year in jail and to pay $500 victim assessment fee, $200 court costs, $100 DNA collection fee, $1496.33 restitution, and attorney fees to be determined.
State versus Darick Grit Maury, 37. Pled guilty to possession of stolen property in the third degree. Ordered to serve 365 days in jail with 305 suspended. He was ordered to pay $200 court costs, $500 crime victim assessment, $615 in restitution, and attorney fees to be determined.
State versus Ronald Ray Legler, 35. Pled guilty to one count of possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine. He was ordered to serve 30 days in jail and to pay $500 crime victim assessment, $200 court costs, $100 DNA collection fee, $2000 other fines and attorney fees to be determined.
