Forty-two teams from Hoquiam, Elma, Montesano, North Beach, Lake Quinault, Wishkah, Ocosta, Willapa Valley, South Bend, and Naselle competed in the January 4th knowledge bowl meet. Where did 2009 go? I cant believe its almost 2010. That means we have lived here for 10 years, and it seems like we moved in yesterday. I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. I don’t know about you but I still have a few things to do before the big day on Friday, so this column will be shorter than usual. We are expecting two of our sons and their girlfriends on Tuesday afternoon, as well as their puppies. We will be celebrating our son Don’s birthday a little late (it was the 16th), with his choice of what he wants to eat, and what kind of birthday cake I fix. Water, water everywhere. We knew it was coming; it was just a matter of when. We are now residing on our hill with lakefront property, probably for a couple more days, and we are the lucky ones. There are lots of logs and big trees with root wads floating in the Grays River and hopefully they will not be caught up on the bridges. More than a year ago, with about 50 boxes of library books, donated by the Friends of the Bend Library in Bend, Oregon, a huge project began to unfold in Rosburg. A public and free library for the west end of Wahkiakum County was envisioned by a few interested volunteers, as well as many residents. With a room available in the old Rosburg School, the blessing of the Johnson Park Advisory Board, and lots of work, it looks like this dream will become a reality in 2009. Dan Cothren and Tom Doumit (George Trott was in Savannah, Georgia on County business) met with a pretty well informed crowd on Tuesday noon at the Rosburg Hall Senior Lunch program. The main issue on the agenda was the elimination of county funding for the WSU Extension office here in Wahkiakum County but other budget cuts were brought up as well.
