  • County closing Steamboat Slough Road

    Wahkiakum County commissioners today (Tuesday) authorized the closure of Steamboat Slough Road because of Columbia River erosion. The river is eroding the shoreline and dike near Hornstra's Beach. The county has already closed the outside traffic lane because the ground has slid away up to the edge of the road. County Engineer Pete Ringen reported that an engineering firm hired to evaluate the situation concluded that the dike and road are in danger of sliding away at any time.
