The Cathlamet town council is proposing to raise sewer bills $5 a month, effective July 1, for the next three years to build reserves for sewer system operations. Councilmember David Goodroe proposed the increase, and after discussion the council asked Attorney Bill Faubion to write a proposed ordinance to implement the increase. Port District No. 2 of Wahkiakum County plans to continue work developing Svensen Park on West Sunny Sands this year. The port district has received a grant from the state Inter-Agency Committee for Outdoor Recreation. The Cathlamet town council tabled action Monday evening on a proposed ordinance regulating boat moorage after a boat house owner accused town Attorney Bill Faubion of aiming it solely at him. Faubion had presented the ordinance at the council’s February meeting and said it was needed to allow the town to regulate people living on boats, houseboats and other floating vessels in waters under the town’s jurisdiction. Wahkiakum County officials this week continued efforts to find solutions to the financial crisis of the Wahkiakum Family Practice Clinic. When county officials decided 2.5 years ago to buy the clinic from PeaceHealth Medical Center, they knew it would probably run at a loss, but the loss has been more than double what they expected. The clinic entered 2007 with an unpaid loan of $185,000 from the county treasurer, and it is now facing a projected $250,000 shortfall for 2007.
