    The visiting Adna Pirates pulled out a 28-20 overtime win Friday against the Wahkiakum Mules. The Mules took a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter on a halfback pass from Zach Brown to Joey Moore. Adna tied the game and took a 12-6 lead at halftime. They added a safety for a 14-6 lead at 2:19 of the third quarter.     Two people are dead and another person is hospitalized following a collision at 9:06 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, on SR 4 near Mill Creek. As of Tuesday evening, the Washington State Patrol hadn't yet been able to notify family members of the deceased persons, and their identities haven't been announced. They were the driver and passenger of a 2000 Subaru Forester driven eastbound.   • Recovery center releases pelicans

    On September 11, the Wildlife Center of the North Coast released 22 white pelicans at Vista Park in Skamokawa. The white pelicans were admitted to the center as starving chicks, unable to fly or feed themselves. "Human disturbance on the pelicans' nest island, up the Columbia River, is the primary cause for this nest abandonment," center Assistant Director Joshua Saranpaa wrote in a press release.     An end may lie ahead for the never ending story of Cathlamet's decorative street lighting project. The town council will hold a special meeting at 3 p.m. next Wednesday to discuss with its consulting engineers how to pay for the latest addition to the project's cost.     Wahkiakum County commissioners on Tuesday heard the latest update in staffing at the Cowlitz Family Health Center clinic in Cathlamet and handled other business, including a discussion of the county's comprehensive plan.     With little on the agenda, reports were the focus at the Wahkiakum County PUD Board of Commissioners Meeting on Tuesday. Counsel Tim Hanigan reported that he had been finalizing an inter-local agreement with Port District 2, who had asked the PUD to collect their water samples. I was troubled, however, by the third caption which read, “Fishery managers hope the seines will be less lethal to endangered wild salmon than gillnets.” The implication here seems to be that there exists a conservation issue with gillnets.
