To The Eagle: To be against the idea of roundabouts just because one doesn't like them is not keeping the best interests of the community in mind. These traffic safety structures provide a practical way to slow traffic while including nice highway landscaping. As for our local truckers, most have no objection. WET, WET--As this week began, we had quite a bit of rain and wind too! With all the dry forests around us and the fires raging in so many parts of the PNW, it was really a welcome relief, and it beat the snow that Montana got, as I'm not quite ready for that yet! Charles Lloyd Ostervold III, “Chip”, 53, of Longview, died on September 11, 2017 at home. He was born in Longview on December 25, 1963 to Lloyd and Jacquelyn (Greenough) Ostervold. Chip grew up in Cathlamet where he graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1982. He worked as a logger for a few years and commercial fished in Alaska with his Uncle John in the summers before he began his long career at Georgia Pacific, Wauna Mill in 1987. The Wahkiakum County PUD Board of Commissioners met Tuesday morning to listen to reports, discuss a recent request for an exception to a policy, and approve travel. A log truck driver from Terrebonne, Ore., was hospitalized Monday after his truck ran off SR 4 east of Cathlamet and rolled onto its side. Charles Ron Wilson, 69, sustained cuts and fractures of facial bones. While county officials agree they'd like to see lower speeds on SR 4 in the Cathlamet area, they don't want to use traffic circles to accomplish that end.
