HALF NICE--Easter weekend may not have been completely nice, but most of Saturday was, so the Lions Club Easter Egg hunt didn't happen in the pouring down rain. Actually, it didn't start getting wet until evening time here, so it was a pretty good day, and with so many events taking place, it was great to not have to wear boots and slosh around through the puddles. Fred Wyman Stanley, 73, of Cathlamet, died March 20, 2016 at the Hospice Care Center. He was born in Kelso on April 25, 1942, to Russell and Clara (Kent) Stanley. He was a member of the Kelso High School Class of 1960 and married Crystal Moorcroft on December 23, 1960. Fred was a self-employed farmer and owner of Stanley's Sanitary Service. Wahkiakum County commissioners will visit the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park, Rosburg, next Tuesday. The board doesn't normally meet on a fifth Tuesday, but acknowledging a need to help the facility's board of directors reform, they decided on Tuesday to recess this week's meeting and reconvene next Tuesday in Rosburg to tour the facility. Unsworthy and Norman said the Oregon and Washington departments continue to study fisheries under the Kitzhaber Plan with an eye on evaluating it at the end of the year. The plan, named after former Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber, basically allocates the majority of salmon harvest in the Columbia to anglers, shifts commercial gillnetters into side channels, and encourages development of alternative commercial gear.
