OLYMPIA – The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) will host a public meeting Nov. 20 in Cathlamet, to begin the process of developing steelhead management plans for several tributaries to the Columbia River. Kevin Michael Murphy, 65 of Puget Island, passed away on Sunday November 9, 2014 at home. Kevin was born on March 5, 1949 to Michael J. and Luella (Koth) Murphy in Seattle. He graduated from Mountlake Terrrace High School and attended Lewis and Clark College before moving to Bellingham where he graduated from WWU in 1971. On August 28, 1971 he married Cathy Johannes and in 1972 they moved to Cathlamet. He graduated from the LCC Nursing Program in 1976 and worked as an RN at St. John Medical Center for 20 years. Anyone wishing to help can pick a star from the Star Trees at the Bank of America and Bank of the Pacific in Cathlamet, and the Duck Inn and Skamokawa Store in Skamokawa. Here in Cathlamet, a town hall meeting is scheduled to try to sort out sewer fees, and next door in Longview a couple of nice folks are on the ballot for PUD Commissioner to try to end bickering and gridlock in that organization. Orval Runkle passed away October 22, 2014, from a long bout with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born to Lona and Claude Runkle in 1927 in Colorado. Ray lived most of his life in Danville, Calif. He joined the Navy when he was 17 and was on a minesweeper in WWII. He later joined the Army, so he was an excellent salesman and also worked with the hydroplanes. He was a very friendly person.
