The Cathlamet Town Council acted on fireworks complaints, sewer rates, and a variety of other issues when it met Monday for its monthly meeting. Mayor George Wehrfritz reported he had received an unusually high number of complaints from Cathlamet residents about July 4 fireworks that were unusually loud and lasted very late at night. Marjorie Fay Burns passed away at her home on Puget Island on Sunday, July 7. She was born on April 11, 1928 in Polson, Montana, to George and Elizabeth Fryberger. Marge married Robert Burns in 1950. They moved to Portland in 1957 and raised their family there. They retired on Puget Island in the early eighties. Wahkiakum PUD employee Lia Sealund presented her findings of a recent conservation program at Wahkiakum School District to the PUD commissioners during their July 2 meeting. The school district, in partnership with the PUD and the Bonneville Power Administration, completed phase one of a two-part project to increase energy efficiency to all three buildings as well as the bus garage.
