To The Eagle: There is a solution to the mess this country and the world is in. Is it going to be easy to do? Does it provide instant gratification? No! I will say it again. What if people started to take full responsibility for their lives, their families, their town, their state and so on? We have elected officials who are, let’s just say, not taking care of the folks back home. What can anyone do? Do not wait for the various agencies to hand you a living, food, clothing, a job or anything else. Create your own job; grow a garden, people h...

BITTER COLD--This past week has been an extremely cold one around our area with temperatures in the low 20's and slick roads and icy ponds everywhere. We had folks in the ditch or doing a dance on the highways, so it was definitely a challenging week to stay on the road and to stay warm. Depending on what weather report you listen to, we could be in for some more freezing rain or snow, so be careful out there. For your own safety, please turn on those headlights as foggy conditions make the visibility of your car extremely difficult. SPECIAL...

To The Eagle: "For the government to permit banks to issue money, borrow that money, and pay interest on it is idiotic!" --Bill Hixon. Requiring commercial gillnet fishermen to try to fish in a little puddle is idiotic! It would be something akin to requiring that sport fishermen only be allowed to fish from port district docks, not floats, docks where ships tie up. That, too, would be idiotic! Giving the Army Corps of Engineers a pass on dealing with the increased erosion on the Steamboat Slough dike caused by their projects and actions is...
WINTER IS HERE-- When the temperatures start dipping into the 20s around here and the highs are in the 30s, you know that winter has arrived in earnest. Those of us on private water systems wind up being obsessed by the temperatures of the days and evenings. The sunshine can lure you into thinking all is well with your water lines, when in fact, it's just a tease and you can still freeze up if your source is located in a shady, still-frozen parts of the woods. One must take extra care to keep those lines flowing. If you're out of power, a...
