I don’t know about you but the warm rain was quite refreshing at the beginning of this week. Don’t get me wrong, I like the sunshine, but when it gets above 80, it’s too hot. That was one of the many reasons to leave California. Cathlamet resident, Janet Cimino, 67, passed away August 4, 2011 at Community Hospice. She was born June 29, 1944 in Chehalis, WA to G.R. and Mildred (Swanson) Kerstetter. The Northwest Steam Society will hold its Annual Steam Meeting August 12-14 at Cathlamet's Elochoman Slough Marina, drawing steam engine enthusiasts and their machines from all over the Pacific Northwest. Cathlamet Fire Department officers have responded to queries from Mayor George Wehrfritz about the operation of the department's wildland truck and its travel out of state. Wahkiakum County commissioners on Tuesday authorized Health and Human Services staff to begin looking for a potential site for 16-20 units of new housing accessible to county residents with disabilities and/or low incomes. Melissa Wong will soon be leaving the community garden in Cathlamet’s Erickson Park to study Culinary Arts in Portland, but the work she’s begun to engage children should continue to bear fruit. During Bald Eagle weekend, nearly 30 boats from the Portland Yacht Club (PYC) enjoyed the newly redone E dock and pavilion at the marina. Five of the classic "woodies" from PYC also participated in the Wooden Boat Show and we cheered as Don Peterson's tug "Hoot" was named Best of Show. To The Eagle: I've been here at the Fort Harrison VA Hospital a week with an infected diabetic foot. Should be released today. I can't say enough good things about the care one gets here.
