It is so good to be home where I belong after a two-week absence, and the more trips I take away from this wonderful place, the more I believe it. Born on September 18, 1932 at the Naselle home of her parents Matt and Ester Simukka, Helen attended school in Naselle and graduated from Naselle High School. The Naselle Comets boys basketball team ended their season with a 50-47 loss to Tacoma Baptist last Wednesday in the first round of the State 1B tournament in Spokane. News from Naselle: Hearts are heavy in our community as the Rob Dalton family lost a precious wife and mother, Elizabeth Dalton. She passed away on Friday, February 16 while vacationing with her husband in Hawaii. To the Eagle: After reading the reactions about the proposal to sell cannabis in the Rosburg Store, I'm very disappointed in the board of commissioners of Wahkiakum County Fire District No. 2's logic when they opposed the application. They stated that the store is near a park and a school bus stop, and felt commercial activity at the store could create dangerous traffic situations. It looks like Mother Nature has decided to cooperate with the calendar and as I complete this column I watch big puffy snowflakes falling outside and actually sticking to the ground. Local school districts received support from voters in Tuesday's special levy elections. Voters said yes to a four-year $997,000 levy to support education at the Wahkiakum School District. The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District educational and operations levy passed on Tuesday with a combined Pacific-Wahkiakum vote of 340 for and 165 against.
