Eighth grade students from John C. Thomas Middle School and Naselle Grays River attended the Cispus Outdoor Education Camp in Randle for three days during the second week of May. The event was organized by Wahkiakum Community Network’s Coalition Coordinator, Ginger Hake. Qingmei Wang from China has been awarded a fellowship from the U.S. Department of State to participate in the 2015 Teachers of Critical Languages Program (TCLP). Qingmei will teach Chinese for a full academic year at Naselle-Grays River School. The school has participated in a nation-wide competition in order to host a TCLP teacher. Members of the Naselle Comet Track and Field Squad had a good trip to the state Class 1B Track and Field meet at Cheney last week and brought home six medals. To medal, athletes must place eighth or higher in an event. Ellie Chapman placed fifth in the 100m hurdles, 17.7, sixth in the 300m hurdles, 51.91, and third in the high jump, 4'10", to claim three medals. The Naselle-Grays River Valley School District Board of Directors met for its monthly meeting on May 19, 2015. The board acknowledged the retirement of long-time employee and secretary of Naselle Youth Camp School, Norilyn Pakenen, effective Sept. 30, 2015, and the resignation of Head Girls’ Basketball coach, Robin Andrea.
