  • Luncheon and bazaar will be this Saturday

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Feb 19, 2014

Just when you think the worst is over as far as storms are concerned, here comes another one with lots of rain. This time it has filled our field to the brim and Lake Fred is back, great for the ducks but not for driving in or out the driveway. Looks like we are in for a couple of days. The dogs are happy campers, as they like to hunt the mice that climb the trees. It’s almost like picking apples off the tree. Unfortunately they come in with wet and muddy feet. Oh well, I guess that’s why we live in the country, and I wouldn’t trade it for a...

  • The Singing Revolution will be shown February 22

What happens when a nation of nearly only a million residents takes on the mighty Soviet Union in the late 1980s? What do you use when you have no army or weapons? "The Singing Revolution" will be shown on Saturday, February 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Appelo Archives Center, 1056 SR 4, Naselle. There is no admission charge. • Crab dinner tickets are limited to 200

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Feb 12, 2014

Since I didn’t have to go anywhere during the snowy days we have had, I took the opportunity to enjoy what little accumulation we had. It was a beautiful sight with the snow causing the tree branches to hang almost to the ground, heavy with the white stuff. We were the lucky ones though, I think. All around us it was pretty scary, especially if you had to drive. • A Christmas party was held last week

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jan 29, 2014

Is it winter yet? They say maybe some rain and cooler temps the rest of this week. We can certainly use a little rain, as the grass and brush is not as fire proof as it could be. It looks like someone on Covered Bridge Road found that out the hard way. Fortunately, not much damage was done, only grass and a couple fence posts. Take precautions with fire, no matter what the season is. News from Naselle: I had the pleasure of being invited to attend the Christmas Party (yes, that’s right) for the employees of Okie’s Select Market last Sunday eve...

  • Free seed exchange is set for February 1

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jan 22, 2014

BRR--Here in West Valley, we still know it's winter time as it's been freezing at night and with the fog rolling in upon us in the evening and morning hours, we wind up with "freezing fog" that definitely makes things white with frost and slick to boot, not to mention, cold! Even though the sun looks nice, you'd best not be strutting outside without a warm coat the first half of the day, as in spite of that bright orb in the sky, it's still not too warm out there. SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from January 23-29 are Sharon...

  • Cold weather keeps columnist close to home

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jan 8, 2014

BRR--As this week begins, it is mighty cold outside and everything is sparkling with a thick white layer of frost. The forecasters assure us that this is going to be short-lived and we'll be back to rain by the time you read this and that will be fine with me. There were a few folks who woke up to frozen pipes again and no water so I'm sure they'll be more than happy to see it warm up. Considering the arctic blast that is still hanging around the Midwest and East coast, I'm grateful we're in the 20s and not in the minus 20s with a foot or more...

    Diana Zimmerman, Wah. Co. Eagle|Dec 31, 2013

The road from Woodstock to Wahkiakum might have traveled faster as the crow flies, but Jerry Ledtke’s journey was grounded by wrong turns and right places. He was called first to the sea, and then to the woods, but always to the music. This year, with the encouragement of friends and fellow musicians, Ledtke recorded his first album, Woodstock to Wahkiakum. It’s all original music in Ledtke’s unique style, which he describes as Americana, a catchall for folk, rock, country and blues. “I’ve playe...
