On Thursday, January 9, six Naselle High School Knowledge Bowl teams participated in an ESD 113 Knowledge Bowl meet at Westwood Baptist Church in Olympia. Forty two different teams from 10 different schools participated in the meet. There were 14 teams from 1A schools, 18 from 2B schools, and 10 from the 1B classification. Loggers, truck drivers and operators will gather on Saturday, January 25 at the Appelo Archives Center to celebrate the Center’s 4th Annual Old Time Loggers Reunion. Held annually, the Reunion is intended to bring together timber industry workers of all ages and their families as well as other community members who want to honor the industry’s significance in the region. Letters from Karelia is a documentary produced by the National Film Board of Canada in 2004. It will be shown at the Appelo Archives Center, 1056 SR 4, Naselle, at 11 a.m.. on Saturday, January 18. This film tells the story of Aate Pitkanen, an idealistic Canadian-Finn who went to Soviet Karelia in 1931. Aate sent letters home to his sister in Ontario until 1941 when Hitler attacked the USSR. The Pacific County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday reported the death of former Pacific County Sheriff John Didion. After a career as an NFL center, John and his family settled in Pacific County where John served as Sheriff from 1998-2010.
