I hope everyone had as wonderful a Thanksgiving as we did. This year was the first time I cooked the Thanksgiving meal for several years. Rosburg, Washington resident Myrtle H. Anderson, 98, died November 12, 2012 in Raymond. The daughter of Herman and Sarah (Strausser) Oest, she was born April 7, 1914 in Napavine. The family moved to Cinebar where Myrtle attended grade school. She later lived with her sister in Napavine and graduated from Napavine High School in 1933. Myrtle was married to Manson Miller and they were parents of four sons. Manson died as a result of a hunting accident in 1947. In 1951 she married Norman Anderson and they made their home in Rosburg. A winter storm that packed hurricane force winds and dumped five inches or more of rain hit the lower Columbia River region Sunday and Monday. The heavy rains brought flooding to the Grays River Valley on Monday and led to landslides that closed SR 4 in several places Monday afternoon between Cathlamet and Longview. Well, folks, we are now sitting on waterfront property once again. We could conceivably row straight across the field to the Covered Bridge but the current is such that it probably wouldn’t be such a good idea. Naselle resident Phillip L. Raistakka, 77, died November 3, 2012 in Astoria. The son of Leo and Sylvia (Nasi) Raistakka, he was born in Astoria on March 24, 1935. Phil was valedictorian of the Naselle-Grays River Valley High School class of 1953. He earned his BA degree in education from the University of Puget Sound where he belonged to the Sigma Nu fraternity.
