It didn’t look good for our trip to Oregon last week when we got up on Wednesday morning. Lake Fred (our hay field) had raised its ugly head and the driveway was flooded. Author to sign books at Advent Soup Supper Naselle Evangelical Lutheran Church will host its annual Advent Soup Supper on December 4, from 4 until 6 p.m. The event, featuring homemade soups and breads, follows the FinnAm Christmas Tour of Homes. Holiday begins this weekend in Cathlamet The annual Festival of Trees, Lights, Santa and more will take place this Saturday. From 3-7 p.m. the Festival of Trees will be on display to begin voting and bidding at the Bank of the Pacific. Well, the temperatures have shown us that winter is just about here, along with the high winds last week and snow over the weekend. Our walnut tree still had all of its leaves on Saturday, but after the freeze Saturday night and the wind, it was completely bare of leaves by Sunday afternoon. The Adna Pirates beat the Naselle Comets 41-8 last Friday in the state Class 2B football playoffs. The loss was the Comets first of the season and left them with a 10-1 record. Adna, 10-1, advances to face Morton/White Pass in the quarterfinals; the Timberwolves handed the Pirates their only loss of the season. The Pirates opened the scoring in the second quarter. State meet at Pasco Two Naselle Comet cross country runners competed in the state meet last Saturday at Pasco. Sophomore Katie Green placed 24th in the girls race, running the 5,000 meters in 21:40. The Naselle Comets pounded out a 49-18 win over the Wahkiakum Mules in the opening of the state football playoffs last Saturday in Naselle. The win also gave the Comets continued possession of the KM Trophy. The Mules, fifth place in the Central League, gave the Comets, Pacific League champion and ranked second last week in the Associated Press football poll, all they could handle in the first half. Naselle resident Annette “Sis” Gilbert-Smith, 51, died in Ilwaco, October 31, 2001 following a short battle with cancer. The daughter of Robert and Mabyn (Klint) Smith, she was born in Longview, Washington on April 17, 1960. She grew-up in Rosburg where she attended grade school and was a graduate of Naselle High School, class of 1979. Sis was a wife, mother and homemaker. The Wahkiakum Public Utility District commissioners increased rates for its water and electricity customers at its regular meeting Tuesday. The board also agreed to travel to the west side of the county for the second meeting of the second month of each quarter, beginning February 21, 2012.
