The fair is only as good as we are, it seems to me. It's not a traveling show that comes to visit the county every year. We have to create our own fun. It's a chance to celebrate who we are and, I think, a perfect opportunity for some good natured competition. That's why I decided to issue the pie baking challenge this year. I'm so glad I contacted the Woman's Club, and that they ran with it, making the challenge even better with their support, pie kits, sign up sheets, pictures, and certificate...
"We had a wonderful fair," Fair Manager Patty Dursteler said. "It was probably the best fair we've had since I took over as manager in 2013. There were a lot more people. We doubled our gate from 2019." Dursteler thinks the new asphalt and the beer garden had something to do with the bigger turnout, and was pleased to report the fair had more entries than usual. As for pies, there were aplenty, 24 in fact. I entered a pie for the first time, and it turns out I wasn't the only one to do so. [For...

County commission Chair Gene Strong said Tuesday that one of the current habitat board commissioners, Krist Novoselic, is stepp...

Brenda White opened Aunt B's Grooming on Main Street in Cathlamet last month, and old clients and new ones are keeping her busy. White has been grooming dogs for nearly 15 years. When White was young, she wanted to be a veterinarian. It was too late for that particular dream, but in her own tenacious way, she found a substitute that...
