On March 26, the Wahkiakum Mule golf team visited the former 1A links powerhouse Ilwaco Fishermen at Surfside Golf Course in Ocean Park. The calm weather, manicured golf course and flat surface didn't result in our best efforts. Senior Elliot Haney knew he was in for a long day when his first drive sailed out of bounds. The Wahkiakum Mule golf team opened their 2015 season last week short handed but made the most of it. Senior Elliot Haney shot a 38 to tie Ilwaco's Kenneth Sheldon for medalist in a match with former 1A power house golf programs Life Christian Academy, 167 team score, and Ilwaco, 178. Haney led by one stroke going into the last hole but blew a nine iron over the green from 145 yards, winding up with an unlikely bogey that resulted in the draw. Four Wahkiakum Mule wrestlers headed to the Tacoma Dome last weekend to participate in the 27th Annual Mat Classic State Wrestling Tournament. Wrestling at 132 pounds was Luke Stacey, at 138 pounds was Alex Johnson, at 160 pounds was Kody Vik and wrestling at 182 pounds was Trystan Mendez. Four Wahkiakum Mule wrestlers qualified for this year's state Mat Classic championship tournament this Friday and Saturday at the Tacoma Dome. Luke Stacey, 132 lbs., Alex Johnson, 138 lbs., and Trystan Mendez, 182 lbs., all won their weight classes, and Kody Vik, 160 lbs., placed second in his. As a team, they placed fifth overall. It didn't take long for the Wahkiakum Lady Mules to pick up the pieces. Last Thursday, they entertained the Toutle Lake Ducks in the final regular season game, a game whose winner would claim the Central League Championship. Despite obvious growth throughout this year, the Wahkiakum Mules boys basketball team was not able to turn the numbers in their favor and ended the week with two more losses. Wahkiakum Mules wrestlers spent the day wrestling for the District/Sub-Regional tournament on Saturday, Feb. 7th. The boys traveled to Ocosta High school and the girls went on to Aberdeen.
