Wahkiakum School District has announced that kindergarten registration will be held April 16-20. Children who are five years old on or before August 31 of the upcoming school year are eligible to start kindergarten. On April 25, 6 p.m., Cowlitz County Master Gardener Phyllis Collins will teach how to make Hypertufa garden pots and planters. Hypertufa is the art of making lightweight cement pots. In this class participants will mix the ingredients, cast a planter, get ideas, learn techniques, and gain the knowledge to make more forms at home. Projects will be taken home. Last Thursday, students from J.A. Wendt Elementary School, along with family members, teachers, and staff, packed the multipurpose room for Literacy Night. A camping theme was used to promote the event and outside, volunteers were serving hot dogs, s'mores, and more. Inside, the energy was high. When Wahkiakum High School held a dodge ball tournament to raise money for Doernbecher Childrens Hospital, even the school board stepped up to form a team.
