SUPER NICE--What a difference a week makes, as this weekend we had absolutely gorgeous weather, compared to the soaking we had the week before, so it was really great. The night-time temperatures were in the low 40s in West Valley, with lots of fog in the morning hours, but the sunshine that followed made it all worthwhile. With more rain due at the beginning of the work week, we can only hope that it clears up some by mid-week like they say it's going to, at least for a couple of days. SPECIAL DAYS--Those celebrating birthdays from Oct. 10-16...

The title refers to the traditions, customs and objects handed down from immigrant ancestors that continually rework themselves into the lives of those in succeeding generations. The poems range from formal structured piece...
WET AND WILD--I'm pretty sure there's no fire danger around here anymore, as we had inches and inches of rain over the last week and now we just have to worry about mudslides and falling trees. Last weekend saw officials already dealing with power outages and trees and water over the various roadways, while fields turned into lakes. The thunder and lightning storm that descended upon us Sunday morning was enough to shake a person out of bed, so we've had some pretty wild weather, which brought record-breaking rainfall amounts to many local...

WET WEEKEND--Fall officially began last weekend and what a wet one it was. Sunday was especially soggy and blustery and it certainly brought home the realization that our summer is over, but at least it wasn't as bad here as it was other places, which had multiple trees down and major power outages, so I'm sure we were all happy about that. Beings I never seem to get all those sunny day chores done before the rains begin, I'm hoping for a few nice fall days so that I might get caught up. However hard it is to believe, we are going into October...

MIXED BAG--Well, this past week we've certainly had a variety of weather and some of it was great. Then came Sunday! Wow, that was quite an impressive thunder event we had and if you add a touch of lightning and a brief power outage, along with some heavy rains, it made for quite an interesting day! Looks like we're in for some cooler weather with fairly moderate temperatures for most of this week, except for Thursday (today), when temperatures are back in the summer time range. I guess we may need to keep the fans and AC units going just a...
TOASTY--As this week begins, it's feeling pretty toasty around our area with temps in the 80's, so those who had weekend plans wound up with plenty of sunshine. This was a big difference from parts of last week, where we had thunder and lightning and raindrops the size of quarters coming down in buckets; it was pretty wild! Campers in Vista Park were soaking up the sun and enjoying this great weather, while the guys working on the tide gate by the fairgrounds were happy to see some dry weather as well. The foggy mornings at the beginning of...
