  • What's Happening at the Fair?

Becky Ledtke, Wah. County Fair Manager|Sep 22, 2011

Fair premium checks are done! They are in the mail and you should receive yours in the next couple of days. Take a look at the amount of premium money you received this year. Next year, try to bring five more exhibits to show at the fair. There will be more exhibits at our fair to look at and even more premium dollars sent your way. A county fair wouldn't be very interesting if we didn't have all the animals, grown items and handmade crafts you bring in to exhibit. Thank you for helping make our fair a success again! If you purchased a horse...

  • Covered Bridge Dinner Oct. 1

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Sep 15, 2011

Fall is in the air! At least in the early morning hours and in the evening. I guess the few short weeks of summer is all we are going to get. News from Naselle: Sports calendar for the coming week for the Naselle-Grays River Valley District is as follows: Thursday-volleyball at South Bend at 5:45 p.m.; Friday-football at home with Raymond at 7 p.m.; Saturday, there will be a volleyball tournament at North Beach; Monday-middle school volleyball at North Beach at 5:45 p.m.; Tuesday-volleyball in Naselle with Willapa Valley at 5:45 p.m. and...

  • What's Happening at the Fair? - September 15, 2011

Becky Ledtke, Wah. County Fair Manager|Sep 15, 2011

As Fair Manager I have the honor of giving out a Manager's Award. This year I gave the award to two volunteer superintendents who spent many weeks building, cleaning, painting, decorating and preparing paperwork before our Fair started. These two volunteers worked many long days and through it all smiled and enjoyed every minute! They made their Rabbit, Cavy and Poultry building a special place for exhibitors to bring and show their animals. The 2011 Manager's Award was given to Deb Gribskov and Shawn Deal. Congratulations and thank you for...

  • What's Happening at the Fair?

Becky Ledtke, Wah. County Fair Manager|Sep 8, 2011

The greatest news this week has to be about Mike and Carrie Backman. Two very nice people in our community met, fell in love and were married last Saturday. They held their reception in the Fairgrounds Park and invited all family and friends to attend. Congratulations Carrie and Mike! The Fairgrounds Park is a great place to have special events like weddings, receptions, private parties and family reunions. It’s private and big enough for a huge crowd. If you are interested in reserving a week-end or a day, give me a call. How many people a...

  • Fund raising efforts for service dog continue

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Sep 8, 2011

I’m not complaining but don’t you find it unusual that it is raining in Yucca Valley, California, and not in Grays River? With all this warm dry weather, we have been able to finally put down our hardwood flooring and are in process of putting the final coats of finish on. What a job, but certainly worth it. News from Naselle: Good job, Comets on last Friday’s football game. Keep up the good work. Sports on the schedule for Naselle include: Thursday-volleyball at home with Ilwaco at 5:45 p.m.; Friday-football at home with Knappa at 7 p.m.;...

  • Are you ready for some football?

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Sep 1, 2011

COOLER/STILL NICE--As this work week began, a few clouds rolled in and we had a couple of spritzes of rain, but after a little of the same on Monday, we saw sunshine and it was a pretty decent day. It looks like we'll continue to have some decent weather this week. As a matter of fact, last weekend was perfect. I heard from Kelly Hammond in Virginia and she and other family members had gone inland and were just fine, and even upon returning home, only found minor damages to the house. Jamie Kincaid was fine in North Carolina and didn't even...

  • Johnson Park belongs to all

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Sep 1, 2011

News from Naselle: September already, and school begins again. It seems like summer just started, and now it’s time for new classes, fall sports and cooler weather once again. At least the nice daytime temperatures seem to be hanging around. Today (Thursday) is the first day of school for the 2011/12 class year at the Naselle-Grays River Valley School District, and the sports teams have already had a few weeks of practice. Sports schedules for this week include: Friday, football at home with Ilwaco at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, volleyball at Knappa a...

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 25, 2011

DRIPPY BEGINNING--This work week is beginning a little damp, not making any hay-makers happy, but my lawn is probably thrilled as it was looking a little parched. The full week of dry weather that some forecasted fell apart as a weak system came in and gave us some heavy cloud cover Sunday evening and this light rain Monday morning. By Monday evening the drizzle turned into down right rain, and the clearing that I thought we'd have by Tuesday, certainly didn't show up here Tuesday morning either. It's another wet one I'm afraid. FAIR TIME--It...

  • What's Happening at the Fair? - August 25, 2011

Becky Ledtke, Wah. County Fair Manager|Aug 25, 2011

I hope that everyone had a chance to stop by and enjoy the 2011 Wahkiakum County Fair. We had a great line-up of music entertainment for each day plus magicians, reptile shows, line dancers and fencing demonstrations. There were a lot of animal and still life exhibits to look at, animal shows to attend and the weather was perfect. It was a wonderful Fair! As Fair Manager, of course I had a few “oh no, what do I do now?” times, one being the spelling bee. The person who was to conduct the spelling bee was told the wrong day. It was time for the...

  • DNR crew's hard work benefits Johnson Park

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 25, 2011

I don’t know about you but the warm rain was quite refreshing at the beginning of this week. Don’t get me wrong, I like the sunshine, but when it gets above 80, it’s too hot. That was one of the many reasons to leave California. The farmers making hay probably didn’t appreciate the rain much as many of them are still trying to get the bales into the barns, and there are still quite a few bales in the fields. It looks like more good weather on the way though, at least through the weekend. News from Naselle: One more week until school begins...

  • Country Pride, County Wide!

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 18, 2011

LOOKING GOOD--This is it! Wahkiakum County Fair time and it starts today (Thursday) which is Senior Citizens Day until 4 p.m. From all weather reports I'm seeing, we should have some very nice weather for the fair; that would be great! It's also quite rare, so we'll be keeping our fingers crossed that it stays decent all week! For the first time, I'll be sitting in a booth inside the T-building, so it should be a fun experience. I'll be selling tickets for the beautiful coffee table made by John Gustafson. It's going to be given away on...

Becky Ledtke, Wah. County Fair Manager|Aug 18, 2011

At 10 a.m., this morning, the gates were opened and our 2011 Wahkiakum County Fair festivities and livestock shows began! The Fairgrounds is filled with still life exhibits, 4-Her’s showing their animals, food vendors, game vendors, business vendors and vendors selling fun , good quality products. I hope you saved the flyer that I sent out with The Eagle newspaper last week, it will help you know when the entertainment you would like to watch is happening. We have a pretty busy schedule of entertainment already, but I was able to add another g...

  • Lindgren cabin still looking for volunteers

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 18, 2011

We enjoyed the week visiting with our nephew and niece from California. Didn’t get a whole lot done on the house but the hardwood flooring is just about ready to go down. Who knew that any moisture variance would make it impossible to install until the percentage was right. We didn’t. Hopefully readers will learn something from our experience, regarding hardwood floors in our moist area. When you spend lots of money to purchase the product, you don’t want it to buckle once it’s installed. We are very happy with the end result though, and onl...

  • 103rd annual fair starts next week

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 11, 2011

SUMMER?--Last week was a mixed bag of weather but for a good deal of it, the theme was gray! We've had the sea fog and misty conditions for several mornings so it hasn't looked too much like summer until the latter part of the day when the sun finally shows up. While Portland was boasting temperatures close to 80 with clear skies, we were basking in the 60's with lots of clouds; however, it was muggy so it felt warmer than it looked. This has not been so great for hay makers or painters, as this kind of weather just makes everything steam; not...

  • Lindgren Cabin needs more volunteer hosts

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 11, 2011

News from Naselle: I had a call from Josie Ciambetti with a reminder that the Wahkiakum County Fair will have an extra special concession during this year’s three day run. The Naselle High School Cheerleaders will be cooking and serving two wonderful treats to the fairgoers. You can chow down on tamales and chicken adobo while you are enjoying the fair and at the same time helping the cheerleaders in their fund raising efforts for their cheerleading camp. The Wahkiakum County Fair will be held in Skamokawa on August 18, 19 and 20. One of G...

  • What's Happening at the Fair? - August 11, 2011

Becky Ledtke, Wah. County Fair Manager|Aug 10, 2011

We are going into high gear this week as a lot of event details are finalized. Buildings will be cleaned and decorated as we get ready for the thousands of entries that we hope to receive from the community. This community of family and friends make our fair the special meeting place it is each year. I encourage everyone to bring their crafts, photos, flowers, baked goods, garden vegetables, canned goods, fresh berries, quilts, sewn items, oil paintings and exhibit them at the Fair. If you have a special talent, like knitting, basket weaving,...

  • August full of fun events to attend

    Aug 4, 2011

ANOTHER MONTH--We're into the 8th month of the year already! We started this one off with a dandy day, as it was sunny and hot and felt like summer. Except for the night and early mornings hours; then it felt like crisp fall air was descending upon us. We'll hope we have a decent month ahead so folks can get their hay in and enjoy the many upcoming events this month. GOT LUCKY!--I was happy that we got so lucky on Saturday to have a nice sunny day for everyone at the Skamokawa Vista Park's Vendors Market--the very first one! I don't think we...

The Vista Park 30 year celebration was a success! It was a beautiful hot day and lots of people attended. I sold firewood raffle tickets, gave out fair books, exhibitor tags and forms. Thank-you for purchasing fair passes and baked goods from Ashley Hedges and Akaysha Stonebreaker our 2011 Fair Princesses at the celebration. We have some great contests this year in the baking department. If you use Bob’s Red Mill Products, here’s your chance to win prize money and their products. Bring in your baking exhibit, a recipe card showing one of the...

  • Pig roast time down in Rosburg

    Trudy Fredrickson, Wah. Co. Eagle|Aug 4, 2011

It looks like summer has actually arrived. Gardens are finally growing, farmers and making hay, and the sun is shining for more than a couple of hours a week. I guess we had better enjoy this break as it may be gone in a week, if Mother Nature stays true to form. Speaking of haying, Darrel Sotka just pulled in with his mower to mow our fields. I hope he doesn’t get lost in the high grass. Don’t forget the summer activities going on at the Timberland Library in Naselle. Summer is the perfect time to catch up on your reading, while sitting in a c...

  • Skamokawa place to be on Saturday

    Jul 28, 2011

GORGEOUS WEEKEND--What a difference a week makes, as last weekend had lots of sunshine. It was great! I hope you were able to enjoy some of this nice weather as it's been so spotty that we have to take advantage of it whenever it shows up! THIS IS IT....DUAL EVENTS--Let's hope we get the same kind of weather for this weekend, as this is the 30th anniversary celebration of Skamokawa Vista Park, complete with a Vendor Market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. That's 30 vendors including food and live music at times. You can buy tickets for a cord of wood, a...

NOT SO NICE--Wouldn't you know, the sun is shining as this work week begins but it sure would have been nice to have sun during the Bald Eagle Day festivities! At least by fireworks time, it was dry enough for folks to get out and enjoy them. Right now, it's steamy outside as all this moisture is just cooking up out of the ground by this sun and making us feel quite uncomfortable. They say we're in for a so-so week with nicer, more summer-like temperatures come Sunday--we'll see! NOT OUR HEIDI--You may have heard that a Heidi Lynn Knowles was...

  • Big weekend for all to enjoy

    Kay Chamberlain, Wah. Co. Eagle|Jul 14, 2011

GORGEOUS--The weekend was great after rain fell last week; not a welcome sight to those who had hay down, but luckily the sun returned and dried the hay, so tractors were tedding and got the hay in wind-rows and then the pounding of the balers and bale wagons made for some long, long days, but some great hay! It's a bit drippy this Tuesday, and I hope they're over and done with by this weekend as we've got a busy time ahead! THIS FRIDAY--One of our local artists, Mike Rees, will have several of his color photographs on display at the new Tsuga...
