The White Pass Panthers swept a doubleheader with the Wahkiakum Mules last Friday at Randall.

The Panthers won the first game 3-1.

"Matt Willette started on the mound and pitched the whole game," said Mule Coach Jeff Rooklidge. "He did a great job holding a tough Panther lineup to two earned runs. He kept them off balance and had great movement on his fastball.

"White Pass is in our league and has been scoring a lot of runs, and Matt really held them in check. Josh Rongey played a terrific game in centerfield making several key catches to help.

"White Pass shut us down at the plate holding us to five hits. They boast the top pitcher in the league, Alex Anderson, who throws really hard. Travis Bain, Josh Rongey, Ty Briscoe, Willette and Ben Doumit each had one hit."

The Panthers won the second game 8-7.

"It was a hard fought game that was well played on both sides," Rooklidge reported. "We jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a 3-run homerun blast way over the left field fence by Ty Briscoe. Brenden McClain and Travis Bain had both reached base on walks before Briscoe connected with his blast.

"We scored 3 runs in the third inning on a double by Bain, a hit by Briscoe and a rbi hit by Blake Anderson. We scored our last run in the seventh on a hit by Bain and another rbi hit by Briscoe.

"Ty had a heck of a game with four hits in four at-bats, including the homerun and 6 rbi's. Bain came in in relief when we were in trouble, and after settling in, pitched great.

"Rongey again made several awesome catches in center field, and McClain and Briscoe turned a nice double play at shortstop and second base. Ben Doumit also did a real nice job behind the plate catching for Bain."

The Mules's games scheduled last Tuesday were rained out and were to be played yesterday (Wednesday) as The Eagle went to press. The Mules are at Morton Friday and at Napavine Monday. They entertain Mossyrock on May 2.
