Wizard of Ozcoming to Naselle

The Naselle High School Drama club is once again sponsoring their annual Broadway Musical running the first two weekends of May. The production this year will be: "The Wizard of Oz" from the Tams-Witmark Music Library, Inc.

The play runs Fridays and Saturdays, May 4, 5, 11 and 12 with showtimes at 7 p.m. and refreshments available during intermission. Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $5 for students. Tickets will be available at the door beginning at 6 p.m. each night.

The play is based on the book version which includes jitterbugs instead of flying monkeys and two extra musical numbers not included in the movie version.There are extra character actors and lots of comedy present in this version of Oz. Dorothy, the Tinman, Lion, Scarecrow, Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West are all there along with the beloved Munchkins. Also included are the Wizard of Oz, Auntie Em and Uncle Henry.

This is the first year that Naselle is using community adults to provide live orchestration as the basis for the musical background of the play. Local adults in the orchestra include Ed Downs on trumpet, Terri Miller on flute, Amber Haataja on clarinet, Spencer Mooer on bass, Kevin Shae on trombone, Chris Hinkle on percussion and Phil Morrill from Astoria’s “Shanghied in Astoria” on piano.Included in the cast are 54 high school, middle school and elementary school students along with two adult cast members and several adults providing voices for the chorus.
