A mentor orientation is scheduled March 17 at 6 p.m. at the St. James Family Center for adults in the community and Wahkiakum County wanting to know more about the program.
Adults will learn more about being matched with young boys and girls in grades kindergarten through five. The program is geared towards linking each child with an adult friend who is supportive and reliable and will spend an hour per week together.
The orientation is offered by mental health professional staff and lasts approximately two hours.
“This is an opportunity for adults to come ask questions about what the commitment would involve,” explained Becky Kuhl, program coordinator. “We encourage interested men and women to spend time attending our orientations prior to making any firm decision to become a mentor.”
For further information, contact Kuhl, Family Support Advocate, at the Family Center, 795-8612, Monday through Friday.
The program is currently being overseen and funded by the St. James Family Center and the Wahkiakum Community Network.
