Volunteers wanted to clean up Long Beach Peninsula beaches

June 14, 2007

Cape Disappointment State Park and the Grassroots Garbage Gang invite the public to participate in their annual Long Beach cleanup on July 5. Volunteers are asked to meet organizers at major beach approaches at 9:30 a.m. the morning of the cleanup. Meeting sites are at Seaview, Sid Snyder, Bolstad, Cranberry, Klipsan, Ocean Park and Oysterville.

The Grassroots Garbage Gang is a group of more than 100 citizens and 28 groups including local residents, regular beach visitors and local businesses. The effort was organized in 2000 in response to massive amounts of trash washing in with winter storms. In 2006, the Grassroots Garbage Gang removed more than 15 tons of garbage from Long Beach Peninsula beaches.
