Well wishers from the local community and from Portland to Seattle gathered at St. James Family Center on Sunday afternoon to honor retiring Executive Director Carol Carver.
Chairman of the Board Leigh O'Malley hosted the event and spoke of the great contribution to the community that Carver has made.
Carver became executive director 10 years ago just as St. James' preschool and daycare moved into a barely finished building. Under her leadership, the two programs expanded into a dozen or more. She ensured that each one met best practices and utilized asset development standards, and applied for the appropriate accreditation. The result is that Wahkiakum County has a facility which offers the best possible quality of care for families and children.
O'Malley pointed out that her contributions went far beyond the Center, throughout our community and across the state.
He thanked Carver and her family before presenting her with a gift from the board. Jenny Gale announced that the employees had planted a tree in the children's garden in Carver's honor.
