"No LNG on the Columbia River" is the focus of a free public workshop being held July 2 at 7:15 p.m. at the Cannery Pier Hotel in Astoria.
The main topic will be the July 10 hearing by the Clatsop County Planning Commission concerning the proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal at Bradwood.
Refreshments will be served.
"If you don't want LNG on the Columbia River, but aren't sure what to say at the July 10 county hearing, you will get valuable information and ideas," said Debbie Donnelly, one of the organizers. The County Commissioners cannot consider any new public spoken or written comment made after the hearing for their final decision. The county hearing July 10 at Astoria High School starts at 10 a.m. and is scheduled to end at 10 p.m.
After the hearing, the Planning Commission will recommend to the County Commissioners whether to approve numerous land use and zoning changes needed by NorthernStar, the company making the proposal. Three gas storage tanks are planned for Bradwood in the county application, each with a storage capacity of more than 42 million gallons. Each tank would be 262 feet in diameter, or approximately a typical city block, and 168 feet tall, or about 17 stories, according to the Bradwood Biological Assessment.
The workshop is presented by RiverVision, Columbia RiverKeeper, Columbia River Business Alliance, and Columbia River Clean Energy Coalition. For more information, contact Laurie Caplan at 503- 338-6508 or Cheryl Johnson at 503-458-6910.
