Fair begins search for royalty

April 17, 2008

The Wahkiakum County Fair is beginning its search for this year's Fair Royalty.

The contest is open to both male and female students. The King or Queen of this year's fair, the county's 100th, will be eligible to earn a sales award of a $300 scholarship to the participant with the most funds raised and a $500 scholarship to the participant chosen King or Queen.

The scholarships will be awarded directly to the college, university, trade school or vocational training program for college related expenses including room and board and tuition. They will be held in trust by the Wahkiakum Dollars for Scholars to be used within five years of high school completion or equivalent.

All contestants will receive a 10 percent commission of funds raised over or above $500, a thank you basket and a fair sponsored chaperoned shopping day. They will be allowed to keep dated sashes, tiaras, hats and clothing purchased for appearances and events throughout the competition.

For more information, contact the fair's Royalty Coordinator Joy Niemela at 795-0248.
