PUD, commissioners hold low key meetings

The Wahkiakum PUD met Tuesday in a low key session.

The cause of Sunday’s county wide power failure was due to a glitch at Bonneville Power Administration’s main grid. It was speculated it was caused by lightning, but there was no official word as of Tuesday.

PUD Commissioner Bob Jungers said he attended the June 19 meeting of the Wahkiakum Stakeholders. He gave them a brief synopsis of the Grays River Hydro Project, which he said is still in its earliest stages.

The next PUD meeting will be July 15 at 8:30 a.m.

In the weekly meeting of the Wahkiakum county commissioners, Alton George of Grays River told the board he would like the county to know about what is going on with the Westend beginning at Middle Ranch.

His concerns are due to various environmental work groups and how it seems they don’t need any insurance bonds or official paperwork. He said he felt these groups come in to the area and decide what they think is best without consulting residents.

He showed the board pictures of areas where washouts have occurred and have, in his opinion, undermined the entire region.

“We want to get together with the county and be as one group. We don’t want to fight the county, we just want our river down there,” he said. “They are claiming this is for fish. This is not for fish!”

The next meeting of the County Commissioners will be July 8 at 9:30 a.m.
