On Tuesday, the Mules hosted the Morton Lady Huskies in the last home game at WHS this season; the Mules rolled over the young Huskies for 31-12 first quarter lead and went on to win 88-23.
"This was a great game; everyone contributed," said Mule Coach Tiffany Niemeyer. It as a great game for Kari Schillios and Shelby Deaton to end their careers on. These two have been great leaders and have stepped up in every way I have asked. They helped set the tone for a new tradition, and I am grateful to have the opportunity to coach them."
Deaton scored 26 points and had 13 rebounds and eight steals for the Mules. Evelyn Clark and Brieanna Olsen each netted 14 points; Jordyn Wirkkala had 12, Rebecka Patching eight, Schillios and Shelby Felton six, and Brianne Helms and Blaine Land two each. Felton made seven assists, and Clark had six.
The Mules made 38 of 70 shots, 54 percent.
Last Saturday, the Mules lost 62-49 at Mossyrock. The Vikings led 29-21 at halftime.
Wirkkala led the Mule scoring with 13 points; Deaton had 11, Patching nine, Clark eight, Schillios four, Olsen three, and Felton one.
The Mules made 19 of 63 shots, 30 percent, and nine of 19 free throws, 47 percent. Mossyrock made 21 of 54 shots, 39 percent, and 17 of 33 free throws, 55 percent.
The Mules won 55-19 last week at Columbia Adventist. They led 19-7 after one quarter and 38-16 at half time.
Wirkkala led the scoring with 15 points. Deaton and Clark each had 10; Schillios and Olsen each had eight, Felton and Helms each had two, and Patching had one. Deaton made 14 rebounds, and Clark had nine steals.
The Mules close out the regular season on the road today (Thursday) at White Pass.
They'll start district tournament competition next Monday at Centralia; the opponent will be determined by final league standings. If they win, they'll play Wednesday in Rochester or Montesano; if they lose, they'll play Saturday at a site to be determined.
