What's Happening at the Fair?

After months of planning I am delighted to confirm that the fair board has agreed to proceed with construction of the new arena. Due to the tight time line the fair board considered postponing construction until after our 101st fair, but Pacific Tech has pulled out all the stops, ensuring we will be up and ready come August 20.

I really appreciate all of our loyal vendors' patience as I understand there are other venues on offer. The last few weeks have been a challenge but the fair board and I are committed to Wahkiakum and look forward to breaking in the new arena!

Season Passes are now available! Contact your local princess or pick one up at a neighborhood shop. You can also drop into the fair office or give us a call at 795-3480.

The 2009 Premium Book is receiving its finishing touches and will be printed next week, so get ready to start those entries. This year we’ve tried to simplify the listings and create a more user-friendly manual. If you have any questions about the book, how to enter, or a specific class, just call the fair office.

You may recall that this year the fair board has promised to issue the premium checks within two weeks of fair. So, in order to keep the fair staff sane, please ensure you double check all information on each and every entry card you complete. Your address, age, category as well as the premium book reference must be correct and included.

Don’t miss the Follies this week at the Skamokawa Grange. Fun for the whole family, come early on Sunday and enjoy the fair BBQ. Starting at 11 a.m. , bring the kids and dig into the delicious burgers ($6 a plate) or polish hot dogs ($5 a plate). Each plate includes homemade potato salad and a soda with all proceeds benefiting the fair. That’s this Sunday, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the fairgrounds in Skamokawa.

Bingo is coming! Thanks to the wonderful people at the Gray’s River Grange, the Wahkiakum Fair Association is now the proud owner of a beautiful bingo machine! Due to this generous donation, the fair association will soon be running monthly bingo sessions, helping raise funds for next year’s fair. Thank you Gray’s River Grange members, your support is invaluable.

If you’d like to become involved with the fair or have an idea on how the fair can be improved, get in touch. You can send an email to wahkiakumfair@centurytel.net or call the fair office at 795-3480.
