Labels should indeed be chosen carefully

To The Eagle:

Re: Ron Ackermann’s letter published 15 April 2010.

It is obvious that Mr. Ackermann is unfamiliar with our local Representative, lame duck Democrat Brian Baird. I suggest he Google “brownshirt Pelosi Reid Baird” before drafting another letter to the Eagle. Regarding Tea Party members calling themselves ‘teabaggers’, I further suggest that Tea Party members do not ridicule and denigrate themselves with such vile sexual slang. If they would, they would probably consider themselves ‘teabaggees’ being ‘teabagged’ by Democrat politicians!

After labeling people like me as a brownshirt, Baird apologized profusely, but there really was no need. I didn’t consider that label to be an insult. Specifically, the new 'Wahkiakum-Webster' dictionary defines a brownshirt as a fisherman, logger, or farmer, wearing a shirt that is brown with their own sweat and the dust of the land that they work!

Moving on, for the last year, The Eagle has chosen not to publish, or comment on, any part of the health insurance legislation debacle that recently occurred. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. After all, local papers are in business to discuss local issues.

However, whenever The Eagle does step outside that particular box, they should either present a fair, unbiased look at the issues, or not bother to waste the paper and ink. The Eagle editorial presented the week of April 1 prompted not only my letter but two others as well.

Since The Eagle still chooses not to inform its readers about national issues, I offer this online source for information about the health insurance legislation recently passed, http://www.heritage.org/Research/Reports. Chuck Wolfe Naselle
